Neighborhood Community Day
1-2pm | Art Class for Families with Frida Kahlo by Express Children's Theatre (Inside Chapel)
1-3pm | Calligraphy Demonstration by Islamic Arts Society (Outside on Plaza)
Pay What You Can Tickets $5 - 25 | General admission bench seating
Thanks to a crack in the artistic space/time continuum, the internationally renowned artist, Frida Kahlo, was transported from Mexico in the 1940s to the present day to lead an art class for Houston families. Everyone learned a little about Frida and had a chance to express themselves, too, including an opportunity to hang their work in the windows of the Welcome House. Designed for kids of all ages and parents, too! Express Children’s Theatre was Houston’s oldest and largest multicultural performing arts and education organization dedicated to children and families. We celebrated our 34th year of creating and presenting professional, culturally diverse shows that were designed to entertain and educate. Special thanks to Casa Ramirez for sponsoring art supplies!
The Islamic Arts Society hosted a live calligraphy demonstration on the Plaza where attendees requested a name or phrase to take home with them! The Islamic Arts Society aimed to share the rich heritage of Islamic arts, as art was a common language and bound diverse communities. The society organized events to celebrate our culture and promote the positive image of the Islamic community among Muslims and non-Muslims.
