From Auschwitz to the International Court of Justice

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Judge Thomas Buergenthal shares his inspiring personal journey from a prisoner in Auschwitz to a judge championing human rights on the International Court of Justice. Judge Buergenthal served as the American judge on the International Court of Justice from 2000 until 2010. Prior to the ICJ, he was a judge and president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and served as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee and of the UN Truth Commission for El Salvador. Judge Buergenthal is currently the Lobingier Professor of Comparative Law and Jurisprudence at George Washington University Law School. His is also the author of the memoir A Lucky Child. A book signing and reception follows the program.
