The Chapel hosts a timely discussion on the wisdom of Indigenous-led efforts to pass “rights of nature” or “Earth rights” as a legal and jurisprudential strategy to protect the inherent rights of ecosystems and species, at the same level as fundamental human rights. The rights of nature concept challenges twentieth-century laws as generally grounded in a flawed frame of nature as "resource" to be owned, used, and degraded.  
 
The event is co-curated with Bryan Parras, a Houston-based environmental justice strategist and media producer. For more than two decades, Parras has worked alongside frontline communities to protect land and life, challenge environmental racism, and build movements rooted in justice, resilience, and storytelling.
