Atlas Maior is an Austin-based ensemble known for its original fusion of Progressive Jazz with Middle Eastern, Latin American, and Indian music traditions. Led by Joshua Thomson (alto saxophone, flutes) and Josh Peters (oud, lavta), the group creates a dynamic sound blending expressive melodies, intricate rhythms, and global influences. With five studio albums—including RIPTIDE, named one of The Austin Chronicle’s Top 100 Releases of 2019—the band has earned international acclaim and toured in France, Spain, and Turkey. Recognized as 2019 Creative Ambassadors for the City of Austin, Atlas Maior has shared stages with artists like Kaki King and Vieux Farka Touré and continues to collaborate with musicians worldwide to expand the boundaries of contemporary world jazz.
