25th Anniversary: September 11 Service of Lamentation

25th Anniversary: September 11 Service of Lamentation
Co-presented by Rothko Chapel & First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston

The Rothko Chapel and First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston together affirmed the inherent worth and dignity of every person. On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, it was a simultaneous service of lamentation honoring American, Iraqi, Afghan lives lost to violence, and reflect on our shared humanity.

Community members at both locations read the names of all known victims who died on September 11, 2001, or as a result of the attacks in the ensuing "War on Terror." The general public was invited to join either location for all or parts of the services, which included interfaith prayers, moments of silence, and readings by special guests.

The reading of more than 600 pages of names took place simultaneously at:

7:40 a.m.–midnight
First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, 5200 Fannin St.
Opening interfaith prayers took place between 7:46-10:00am

10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Rothko Chapel, 3900 Yupon St.
Closing interfaith prayers took place between 5:30-6:00pm
