2025 Concert for Peace with Jaipur Literature Festival Houston
Pay What You Can $15-25 | General admission chair seating

In honor of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, the Rothko Chapel will host a contemplative morning of music and poetry in collaboration with Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) Houston. This special program will feature Indian classical music by acclaimed Karnatik musicians Aditya Prakash Ensemble and original poetry by Houston Poet Laureate Reyes Ramirez and youth from The Fay School.

Karnatik music is a form of microtonal music from South India, rooted in Raga, the melodic framework for compositions and improvisations. With Aditya Prakash on vocals, Sruti Sarathy on violin, and Rohan Krishnamurthy on mridangam, experience abstracting emotions through Raga (melody), Tala (rhythm), and Sahitya (lyrics, both linguistic and non-linguistic). The concert will feature traditional repertoire, in its contemporary forms, as well as completely improvised sections and specially crafted arrangements, something not commonly practiced in Karnatik music.

The Jaipur Literature Festival began in India and now brings its celebration of books, ideas, and culture to cities around the world. JLF Houston, now in its 8th year, reflects the city’s rich cultural diversity through literature, music, art, and dialogue. The festival takes place September 5-7 across Houston-area cultural sites, learn more at jlflitfest.org/houston
