"Buffalo Bayou as Relative: A Walk & Community Dialogue on Rights of Nature"
Registration Forthcoming

“Buffalo Bayou as Relative” is a two‑day public program that brings together Indigenous leaders, environmental justice advocates, legal scholars, artists, and Houston residents to explore the possibility of recognizing Buffalo Bayou as a living entity with inherent rights. Through a contemplative gathering at the Rothko Chapel and a guided walk along the bayou, participants will engage in dialogue, reflection, and collective visioning rooted in the global Rights of Nature movement. The project aims to shift public consciousness, strengthen community stewardship, and lay the groundwork for future policy and advocacy efforts that protect Houston’s waterways.

The event is curated with Bryan Parras, a Houston-based environmental justice strategist and media producer. For more than two decades, Parras has worked alongside frontline communities to protect land and life, challenge environmental racism, and build movements rooted in justice, resilience, and storytelling.
