Celebrate the Rothko Chapel's 55th Anniversary
12-3pm || Free, drop-in event with activations across our campus
We are honored to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Rothko Chapel, which was consecrated and opened to the public on February 27, 1971, followed by a public dedication of the Broken Obelisk to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on February 28, 1971. For 55 years, the Chapel has served as a space for contemplation, dialogue, and shared humanity—where art, spirituality, and human rights meet. We invite you to join with us in gratitude for the vision that shaped this sacred space and in reflection on its enduring presence in the world.
