People from all parts of the world and all walks of life visit the Chapel for renewal and restoration. They come to experience prayer, meditation, religious services, lectures, concerts, or simply sit in silence among the magnificent Mark Rothko murals.
Twelve Moments: Islamic Tradition

For the month of May, the Rothko Chapel presents a meditation in the Islamic tradition led by Imam Dr. Wazir Ali of Masjid Warithud-Deen Mohammed and Masjid Al-Qur’an.

Twilight Moments: World Environment Day Observation

In commemoration of World Environment Day, the Rothko Chapel will hold a Twilight Meditation led by Martha Serpas. Join as we unite in support of environmental justice around the world.

Summer Solstice Sunrise Observation
6:20 AM
We celebrate sunrise on the summer solstice with a sunrise meditation starting at 6:20am lead by Alejandro Chaoul, followed by the performance of ragas by Prema Bhat and a labyrinth walk facilitated by Jay Stailey on the Rothko Chapel grounds.

Join Kaminari Taiko of Houston, a Japanese drumming ensemble, to mark the end of the longest day of the year at 8:25 PM with a performance on the Plaza.

Private Memorial Service
4:30 PM
The Chapel will close to the public for the day at 4:30 PM for a private memorial service. The Chapel will reopen to the public at 10 AM April 6th.

The Chapel will close in preparation for the evening concert.
Private Memorial Service
5:30 PM
The Rothko Chapel will close to the public for the day at 5:30 PM for a private memorial service. The Chapel will reopen the morning of April 15th at 10 AM.
Wedding Rehearsal
12:30 PM
There will be a wedding rehearsal in the Chapel between 12:30-1:30 PM. The Chapel will remain open to the public but there will be talking and possibly music inside during this time.
Private Wedding Ceremony
3:30 PM
The Chapel will close to the public at 3:30 PM for a private wedding ceremony. The Chapel will reopen to the public at 5 PM.
Wedding Rehearsal
5 PM
A wedding rehearsal will be held inside the Chapel between 5-6 PM. The Chapel will remain open to the public but there will be talking and possibly music inside during this time.

The biennial Rothko Chapel Óscar Romero Award (ORA) is given in recognition of courageous, grassroots human rights advocacy. Named after Archbishop Óscar Romero of San Salvador, the 2017 Award will be particularly meaningful as it falls on the centennial of Archbishop Romero’s birth. This year the Chapel recognizes two individuals leading efforts in undoing and addressing the impact of mass incarceration. To learn more, click here.
