Journey of the Universe

Film Screening and Dialogue
Mary Evelyn Tucker, Ph.D. and John Grim, Ph.D.

There is no better environment to contemplate the journey of the universe than under the stars on the Rothko Chapel plaza! The Emmy-award winning documentary Journey of the Universe inspires audiences to marvel at the mystery, complexity, and connectivity in our universe and planet, which is increasingly relevant because of the growing ecological crisis. The film was created with a renowned team of scientists, scholars, and filmmakers to examine big science, big history, and the big story. Producers Mary Evelyn Tucker, Ph.D. and John Grim, Ph.D. host a dialogue on the creation of the film and the large questions it raises: How does our current understanding of the universe story relate to our ecological and social challenges? A Q&A follows the screening. Tucker and Grim are Senior Lecturers and Research Scholars at Yale University where they have appointments in the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, the Divinity School, and the Department of Religious Studies. They teach in the master’s program in Religion and Ecology at Yale. They are Coordinators of the Forum on Religion and Ecology at Yale, and series editors of “World Religions and Ecology” from the Harvard Center for the Study of World Religions. Their latest book is Ecology and Religion (Island Press, 2014). A book signing follows the program.
